DIY-How to fix AC power transistor module
« Thread Started on May 25, 2007, 3:04am »

Sir emman pahiram po ng disclaimer ;)

Disclaimer:
User is presumed to have a fair level of mechanical or auto electrical skill in doing this DIY. The author shall not in any way be held responsible for any damage resulting from user’s fault or failure to follow the suggested steps proposed by the author. It’s the user’s responsibility to research thoroughly on the project and validate this DIY.

This DIY based on the three items that I repaired before so I presumed that once the AC blower on your ES is not working the AC power transistor might be the cause of the problem. IF IT HAPPENS THAT THE REPAIR ISN'T SUCCESSFUL, THERE MIGHT BE ANOTHER PART THAT NEED TO BE FIXED. Please refer to your local dealer or reputable mechanic for further diagnosis.

Tools and Materials:

• Philips screwdriver
• a Tweezer
• Soldering iron and lead set.
• 1ohm 1/4 watt resistor

You will find the AC power transistor module here.

Removing the AC blower cover isn't that difficult, see the pics below.

The defective part.

Remove two screws.

Now release the lock to remove the AC power transistor module from the connector.

Notice the heatsink, the power transistor itself and the thermistor are attached to it.

Using the tweezer release the hooks to open it. refer to below pics.

That's the thermistor its a PTC(positive temperature coefficient-the resistance increases with increasing temperature) check with DMM it must be shorted or have at least 0 to 2 ohm resistance depending on the temperature of the heatsink.

If it's open or no resistance at all, replace it with a new one, or solder a 1 ohm resistor in parallel with the thermistor as shown.

Assemble in the reverse order of removal.

Hope you like it :).

Maybe I miss something, uhm mararamdaman mong gumagana yung compressor pero yung blower hindi na umaandar.

Many thanks! Worked like a charm and couldn't have been simpler and cheaper -- 99 cents for a 5-count pack of resistors at Radio Shack!

update ko land po ito based on my experience. Ang nagyari sa akin bale di nag on blower and compressor pero ito rin sira. same culprit pinapalitan ko sa auto electrical yung resistor and ok na sya cost me500 medyo mahal yung shop na pinagpagawan ko pero kilala sila na magaling gumawa dito sa east side actually sa tao ko lang pinagawa kasi pag pinasok pa sa opisina nila 1200 raw singil ang yalk about over pricing. They told me na very common rin daw to sa CR-V gen 2.

Thanks for the wonderful DIY. It worked like a champ! I have a 2001 civic LX and it was an easy fix. Saved me at least 200 bucks I'm sure! Thanks for the post.

papa juniem, pde ba ako mag add dito? just want to share something i discovered.

same thing happened to me just recently and going thru the Honda manual, i came to troubleshoot that this power transistor module was defective and came upon this thread.

however, upon research and asking my suki electronics technician, i went a bit further.... here is what happened...

so anyway, so upon reading this thread i went out to my suki technician, asking about a thermistor and what it does. una sinabi nya na parang wala siya pa na encounter na resistor na nagbabago bago ng value at different temps. so tanong sya kung anu itsura, describe ko naman na parang ordinary resistor din. nag recommend sya ng isang piyesa pero di raw nagbabago resistance although temp sensitive sya.. until napunta sa isang piyesa na parang nga thermistor.... actually pang TV siya sa picture tube...as thermistor this part changes resistance based on temp.... anyway, the part that he gave is a lot bigger than what is to be replace.. and it is shaped like a cube... so i bought it and said i would experiment on it... but also bought a 1ohm resistor, just in case....

so eto na, i am ready to replace the part. i took apart the PCB assembly (yung green na board). desoldered the 5 points on the PCB to expose the part to be replaced. so talagang kinalas ko... here is the picture nung naiwan na IC...

anyway, so now nakuha ko na yung sinasabi na defective part, and upon inspection, ayun, eto pala yung unang recommend ng aking technician.....

the part is what they call a "microtemp".... tama yung technicain... so balik ako sa shop at bumili... ang specs na orig na part is:

2Amp @114degrees Celcius.

ang nabili ko

2Amp @130degress Celcius.

here is the pix of them side by side... the one below is the original part.

what is important daw is the ampere rating. so what does the MICROTEMP does, or how it behaves..... well according to the technician, at a certain temp (going up i presume), it simply cuts off the circuit and at a certain temp (going down i presume) closes the circuit again.

to my opinion, that 1ohm resistor will definitely work, since it will close the circuit. but the microtemp is the way to go since it will have protection based on the temp. it automatically cuts off the circuit at a certain temp. the technician told me that it is used mostly on a clothes iron... yes.. plansta... kaya meron karamihan ng mga electronics shop meron nito...

so ayan mga papa.... hanap kayo ng halos pareho value.. i bought it for around P50... so far so good naman ang ginawa ko.. :)

ang galing nito. kahapon di na umaandar blower ng ac ko pero naoon off naman ang ac. bumili ako ng 1 ohm resistor kanina. 2pcs/1 peso. 1/4 watt ginamit ko. solved the problem immediately! nice diy. saved me $$$$$$$

ganyan din ginawa sa resistor block nung sakin dati, kaso hindi din nagtagal, hindi siguro maayos yung pagkakagawa nung sakin, kaya nagpalit nalang ako ng bagong resistor block... ;D nice info sir... ;D
